|  Molto probabilmente verremo a sapere che Saddam Hussein è stato impiccato soltanto a cose fatte, e questo potrebbe avvenire in qualunque momento da oggi in poi, e dovrebbe avvenire entro un mese al massimo.
Così stabilisce la legge irachena, dopo che Saddam ha perso ieri l'appello contro la sentenza di morte emessa circa due mesi fa contro di lui. "Condannato a morte" ancora prima di entrare in tribunale, l'ex-presidente iracheno sarà la vuota comparsa di una drammatica uscita di scena che ormai non serve nemmeno più a coloro che l'hanno voluta. Ma il copione, nel suo caso, non prevede alternative: dopo che le ADM non si sono trovate, il "dittatore deposto" e il "paese liberato" rimangono l'unica scusa decente a cui Blair e Bush possono ancora aggrapparsi per giustificare in qualche modo la loro infausta scelta di invadere il paese.
In realtà, anche se ufficialmente ne escono sconfitti, lo scopo ultimo dei neocons è stato raggiunto: destabilizzare il paese, spaccandolo su tre fronti ormai irrimediabilmente nemici, per poter meglio gestire in futuro la loro strategia di controllo delle risorse petrolifere. E' proprio questo l'aspetto che Saddam ha tenuto a rimarcare, nella lettera conclusiva che ha scritto al proprio popolo, ...
... e che ieri i suoi avvocati hanno reso nota, dopo aver saputo che l'appello contro la pena di morte era stato respinto.

In un post scriptum, Saddam ha poi aggiunto:
I have written this letter because the lawyers told me that the so-called criminal court - established and named by the invaders - will allow the so-called defendants the chance for a last word.
Ho scritto questa lettera dopo che gli avvocati mi hanno detto che il cosiddetto tribunale criminale - istituito e nominato dagli invasori - avrebbe concesso al cosiddetto imputato la possibilità di un'ultima parola.
But that court and its chief judge did not give us the chance to say a word, and issued its verdict without explanation and read out the sentence - dictated by the invaders - without presenting the evidence.
I wanted the people to know this.
Ma quel tribunale e il suo giudice non ci hanno dato la possibilità di aprire bocca, hanno emesso una verdetto senza motivarlo, e hanno letto la sentenza - dettata dagli invasori - senza presentare le prove.
Volevo che questo la gente lo sapesse.
