Tanto è vero che il volo 93 - per esempio - rimase sotto controllo radar anche dopo aver staccato il transponder.
Lo dice la Commissione d’Inchiesta (pp. 29-30), mica cooperative research:
At 9:41, Cleveland Center lost United 93’s transponder signal. The controller located
it on primary radar, matched its position with visual sightings from other aircraft,
and tracked the flight as it turned east, then south.
E lo sai che cosa succede dopo?
Uno domanda: “Allora, vogliamo pensarci a fare alzare un caccia?”
L’altro: “Oh, Dio, non lo so...”
- “Ma questa è una decisione che andrà presa nei prossimi 10 minuti...”
- “Mmmm...lo sai? Tutti hanno lasciato la stanza proprio adesso”...
(“Uh, ya know everybody just left the room”).
Saranno andati a prendere un cappuccino.
