Daniel Lewin viaggiava in prima classe nel sedile 9B, circondato da dirottatori.
Secondo la commissione sul 9-11, è lui il passeggero ucciso dai dirottatori, insieme a due assistenti di volo ed al comandante.
In un primo momento, in una nota della FAA, si parla di spari (shot). La hostess Betty Ong invece, nella sua telefonata, parlerà di coltellate(stabbed).

Finally, staff notes that the alleged victim of the shooting was seated in 9B. Both the seat and its occupant are described by several of the witnesses' accounts from the aircraft as the place where the stabbing occurred. At this point in the investigation it seems evident that the form of attack on the business class passenger, the only attack upon a passenger reported by the eyewitnesses, became garbled in the account of the assault as it was relayed between the airline and the FAA authorities in the fog and confusion of the rapidly unfolding events of that day.

Craig Marquis, listening to information coming from flight attendant Betty Ong on Flight 11, calls American Airlines’ system operations control center in Fort Worth. He says, “She said two flight attendants had been stabbed, one was on oxygen. A passenger had his throat slashed and looked dead and they had gotten into the cockpit.” He relays that Ong said the four hijackers had come from first-class seats: 2A, 2B, 9A, and 9B. She said the wounded passenger was in seat 10B. [Boston Globe, 11/23/2001] Note that this conflicts with the seats flight attendant Amy Sweeney gives for the hijackers at about the same time (see (Before 8:26 a.m.)): 9D, 9G, and 10B. By 8:27 a.m., this information is passed to Gerard Arpey, the effective head of American Airlines that morning. By 9:59 a.m., counterterrorism “tsar” Richard Clarke and other top officials receive the information. [Clarke, 2004, pp. 13-14]

Della chiamata della Ong si ha una registrazione, qui, notate che la voce che spiega la telefonata afferma che la commissione ha editato una parte del nastro per proteggere il membro di una famiglia da dolore non necessario. Fatto sta che l'affermazione della Ong sui posti occupati dai dirottatori, riportata dal Boston Globe, non appare nella registrazione e dunque ci si può aspettare che quella sia la parte cancellata.
Della telefonata della Sweeney invece non esiste nessuna registrazione. La Sweeney chiama contemporaneamente alla Ong e la contraddice, affermando che i posti occupati dai dirottatori siano i 9D, 9G, and 10B e che il passeggero ucciso sia, indovinate un po', quello che occupa il posto 9b, Daniel Lewin, appunto. La Sweeney è la hostess che rispose, alla domanda del manager di terra della American Airlines "cosa vedi fuori","I see the water. I see the buildings. I see buildings". Strana risposta per una hotess con 17 anni di servizio. Come se non avesse riconosciuto Manhattan.
Questo secondo le testimonianza del manager, visto che non esiste alcuna registrazione di questa chiamata.

[United Press International, 3/6/2002] Sayeret Matkal is a deep-penetration unit that has been involved in assassinations, the theft of foreign signals-intelligence materials, and the theft and destruction of foreign nuclear weaponry. Sayeret Matkal is best known for the 1976 rescue of 106 passengers at Entebbe Airport in Uganda. [New Yorker, 10/29/2001] Lewin founded Akamai, a successful computer company, and his connections to Sayeret Matkal remained hidden until the gun story became known. [Guardian, 9/15/2001] FAA and American Airline officials later deny the gun story and suggest that Lewin was probably stabbed to death instead. Quindi, tornando alla domanda di Blisset, io credo che, se il volo 11 è stato sostituito da qualcos'altro, ci siano due possibilità:
1) che Daniel Lewin, forte del suo addestramento, abbia tentato una reazione ed sia stato ucciso subito (arma da fuoco? pugnalata?).
2) che Daniel Lewin fosse in realtà un membro del commando (armato?) e che ora sia vivo e chissà dove.
Chiaro, sempre che le telefonate non siano (ENTRAMBE) false.
Tutto questo, naturalmente, IMHO...
