1. La virata
Questa sezione comprende tutti i testimoni che hanno descritto una virata dell'aereo - ossia un cambio di direzione - nell'ultimo chilometro percorso (approssimativamente a partire dall'area della Navy Annex) prima dell'esplosione sulla facciata Ovest del Pentagono. E' importante sottolineare come i dati NTSB non presentino alcuna traccia di tale manovra, se non a 6 Km dal Pentagono ed in quota (il loop di 330°), cioè ad una distanza e ad un altezza da cui nessuno dei testimoni presi in esame poteva avvistare l'aereo.
Darius Prather:
When the plane was coming across the Navy Annex it was like actually in between where the US memorial monument and the little tower sticking [on the Navy Annex roof] on the other side, and it was only like 3 feet above that. And it was angleing, it was looking like it was coming over here for the buildings where we are over here. It was on top of the Navy Annex. [...]
And as it was coming across it dropped down a little bit [...] and then it started angleing as it was coming over across that area [overpass sign on Columbia Pike]. It was in between the gas station [and the cemetery area], but more on this side and it was coming along where the buses are right now, that's the parking lot. [1]

I was looking and it came right over the top of Navy Annex. [...] I thought it was going to smashing into our building right there. [...]
It was right in between the CITGO gas station and the maintenence complex. Right over the top of the parking lot there. [4]

Nota: seppure nel suo reseconto non menzioni in modo specifico una virata, Aman esattamente come gli altri testimoni del complesso di manutenzione avvista sopra l'aereo Navy Annex, diretto verso il suo edificio, poi assiste ad un passaggio compreso tra il cimitero di Arlington e la stazione CITGO (Aman specifica l'aerea del parcheggio del complesso). Questo implica necessariamente la presenza di un cambio di direzione nella rotta dell'aereo.

Levi Stephens:
He said he saw the plane "wobble" after passing over the Navy Annex. He said repeatedly that it was on the "right" of the [CITGO] station or that it would be on his "left" if he was at the station facing the Pentagon. He further confirmed by saying that it was on the "Arlington Cemetery" side of the gas station.
He didn't take notice until [the plane] turned towards the Pentagon. [5]

Questo movimento è stato descritto in diversi modi dai testimoni. Una parte di essi ha solo menzionato un'inclinazione verso un lato, mentre altri hanno specificato che si trattava di una rapida oscillazione di entrambe le ali - ossia un rollio a destra e a sinistra. La descrizione di questa singolare manovra ricorre in ben 7 differenti testimonianze. Il livello di rollio massimo riportato dai dati NTSB è pari a 5° (roll angle) a destra.

Nota: seppure nel suo reseconto non menzioni in modo specifico una virata, Aman esattamente come gli altri testimoni del complesso di manutenzione avvista sopra l'aereo Navy Annex, diretto verso il suo edificio, poi assiste ad un passaggio compreso tra il cimitero di Arlington e la stazione CITGO (Aman specifica l'aerea del parcheggio del complesso). Questo implica necessariamente la presenza di un cambio di direzione nella rotta dell'aereo.

He said he saw the plane "wobble" after passing over the Navy Annex. He said repeatedly that it was on the "right" of the [CITGO] station or that it would be on his "left" if he was at the station facing the Pentagon. He further confirmed by saying that it was on the "Arlington Cemetery" side of the gas station.
He didn't take notice until [the plane] turned towards the Pentagon. [5]
